BROOKLYN YOUTH COMPANY
Giving artistic kids the theatrical experiences they deserve.
ABOUT
When Brooklyn Youth Company began in 2010, the mission was to create original theatrical work with young people and to provide a field trip program that explored the art, theater, dance and cultural landscape of New York City designed to nurture and develop young artistic minds.
THEATER
BYC is a theatre-making program where students learn how to act, write direct and produce original work.
FIELD TRIPS
BYC is committed to engaging students in the cultural resources of NYC so field trips to Broadway plays, museums, NYC landmarks, etc. are included in each session.
COMMUNITY
BYC fosters community and life-long friendships. It also offers a youth director program for high school students who have previously participated in the program.
WHY DONATE
BYC is a small operation with little to no overhead or superfluous expenses. Every penny of your donation will directly benefit the Youth Artists and the community in a multitude of ways:
- Helps families continue supporting their childrens’ artistic endeavors and defray the transportation costs of attending the Intensive.
- Hiring BYC alumni and local college students as Assistant Directors and Youth Mentors provides jobs that will enhance creativity, confidence, and collaboration skills.
- Your money will help continue our student-only and family field trips to theater, dance, art and cultural events in New York, including connecting Youth Artists to theater professionals for private classes, coaching and mentoring.
- The field trip experiences gives equitable access to the arts and cultural experiences for those who might otherwise be excluded.
- Our performances created by our Family Theater and Dance Workshops are all offered free of charge to the public, which strongly enhances our community and family bond.
If you are looking for your charitable contributions to make a positive impact in the lives of young artists and nurture a whole community, please donate to BYC!
“Thank you, Brooklyn Youth Company, for always helping me challenge myself by trying new things. Thank you for giving me the potential to be successful. Thank you for being a 2nd home. Thank you for the community you bring to not only me and also, the other students. Thank you for always believing in me. Thank you for allowing me to see amazing performances I never thought I would ever be able to see. BYC has changed my life.”
Amaya Butler- BYC Youth Artist from 2019
“I joined BYC in 5th grade. Those three summers meant the world to me. Although I was a New York City kid, I didn’t realize what that meant until I attended the Brooklyn Youth Company. We went to Broadway shows and significant historical places around the city. I had a great time creating and performing the plays we made using inspiration from the field trips. BYC gave me the exposure I needed to create life-long friendships and reach for stars that I didn’t even know were there and for that I am forever grateful.”
Cole Creary- BYC Youth Artist from 2008-2011
“When I first stepped into a Brooklyn Youth Company workshop, I was a shy, self
conscious, stuttering and overall, introverted middle schooler. Now, as a senior in high school, I’m obsessing over Broadway shows, singing Hamilton songs in chorus, signing myself up for every theatre opportunity possible in school, and thinking about minoring in theatre in college. Ms. Erin has inspired me to take large risks and
come in touch with myself as a performer, and I love her and her company all the more for it.”
